Worsted 4 ply yarns, 3 oz. each, DC and LC. Small size given, (others in parentheses)CAP IN BS. 1. Make a chain of 20 sts (25, 30) with DC, 2. PU sts. 3. TH add LC loop, CHO sts. 4. PU with LC, 1 in each bar. 5. TH, CHO with DC. Rep steps 4 and 5 until there are 20 rows (25, 28) of DC pattern. Measure strip to go around head. Stop at end of DC CHO row, do not cut DC yarn, ch 1. Cut LC 4" long, tie to edge. Fig. 1.
GATHER TOP Hold DC work toward you, insert hook under 2 strands of LC side edge, YO, pull through ch 1, to make it a Hst. Continue to PU 1 Hst in each side row to end of strip. YO, CHO all sts tog, pull tight, ch 1, cut yarn 8" long, use it to sew through all the gathers, pull tight and secure with 2 sts in the center, hide end. JOIN SEAMS with SL ST.Start at bottom edge. Pull a DC loop through DC edge. Hold both edges tog, LC side out insert hook in LC bar of opposite edge, YO, pull through all sts. On DC edge go under 3 strands then insert hook under LC in front of it, YO pull through all loops. Rep to end. Cut yarn and hide ends. Figs. 3, 4. Another way to join is to overlap starting ch over bound off edge and go over and under with yarn needle doing running sts, or back sts to make a strong seam.
