BABY AFGHANS IN SHELL ST # 300, FLUFFY ST # 304 OR CORN ST # 305

8 Oz. Worsted 4 ply yarns DC and 8 oz. LC

Make a ch of 88 sts with DC and work in desired pattern to form a square.

Bind off with same DC color.

Finish with sc all around, as in BABY AFGHAN IN BS 101, Figs 1,2,3 , before making any other final edging. This is very important

FIRST MAKE A SAMPLE SWATCH TO LEARN EACH ST WELL.

SHELL ST # 300.

Multiple of 3 plus 1 helper st.

1.Ch 10 sts with DC. 2. PU sts.3. TH, add LC, CHO as follows: pull thru first st, *ch 3, pull thru 3 tog.* Rep to end of row, ch 1 to lock. Fig.1. 4. *Skip top of shell PU 1 st in each ch st, going under 1 strand. Rep from* to end of row. Fig.2 Rep steps 3 and 4, alternating colors, to form a square.

Bind off with DC on PU row. Fig. 3.

FLUFFY ST # 304

Multiple of 3 plus 1 helper st.

1.Ch 10 sts with DC.2. PU sts. 3. TH, add LC loop, pull through first st, * ch 3, pull through 3 tog, rep from *. At end of row, ch 1 to lock the last 3 tog. 4.Now you cover the space between shells. * Skip top of shell. PU 1 st in first ch, insert hook in the ch of the row below between shells, go under 1 strand and under the CHO row, YO, pull though toward you, PU 1 st in the third ch of the group of three. (Skip the center ch of CHO row, that makes it fluffy). Rep from * to end of row. Do not PU in the last bar. Fig. 4.

5. TH, CHO with DC as in step 3. Make sure you keep pattern in line. There should be 2 strands across the top of each shell, I call this a bridge. Keep your bridges clear, by taking the 3 bars tog between bridges. 6. PU sts as in step 4, but from now on go under the top strand of the bridge to PU the center st. Rep steps 5 and 6 alternating colors to form a square. Bind off with DC in pattern st on PU row.

VARIATION OF FLUFFY STITCH #304

This is a flat pattern. It looks the same on both sides.

It makes a vertical pattern design. Work the same as for st 304, but

go under two strands of the bridge above the shell, then

ch 1 to lock it over the CHO row. Fig. 5 Work to form a square. Bind off with DC

in pattern on PU row.
